After my wife and myself have watched the Kyknet series twice, it was obvious that we had to take short detour to visit Merweville. I always thought that Hanli and Anna were the best Merweville had to offer. I was wrong. The boekklub has such a wonderful atmosphere and Hanli‘s carrot cake was excellent. The best however was actually the wonderful owner of the place. We had such a fantastic conversation with her.

I think this just might be our favourite lunch/brunch eatery in the Karoo. An absolute gem. Fantastic food, lovely service and such a beautiful place. The food and the coffee were excellent. The beer even came in a cold, frosted glass. Such wonderful attention to detail.

This place was a very pleasant surprise. The food, service and little souvenirs sold are great. Merweville is a small close-knit community, the town is clean, the people are welcoming, I will definitely be back.

I was peckish after an early start and when I arrived in Merweville I decided to have a bite at Die Boekklub, a delightful little coffee shop in the village. It is in a converted old house with a garden, and has been done up to provide comfy dining areas inside and on the wraparound stop. I sat outside despite the cool weather to enjoy the passing sights and sounds. I ate the French Banana Toast. - French toast made with banana bread, and perfect for someone with a sweet tooth. Bacon is offered as an optional extra. It was well prepared and hit the right spot. The ambience of the setting, the enjoyable snack I had, the efficient service I received and above all the warm welcome from the proprietor and her staff made this a pleasant and worthwhile stop on a long day behind the wheel. The clean, neat restroom for the guests was also an added bonus.

What an awesome little spot in the middle of nowhere! After watching the series Die Boekklub, and then finding out the coffee shop exists IRL, we had to make it a breakfast stop on route from Joburg to Cape Town. Excellent breakfast and just a heartwarming experience in what is the smallest most desolate little town I've ever visited. Well done to the owner and staff for creating such a memorable stopover and making Merweville worth the turn-off.

We drove to Merweville just for the experience. There are several other restaurants and coffee shops if which we ended up visiting the Boekklub. The Cuppachino's was of good standard. The carrot cake is definitely worth trying. The staff were friendly and helpful. So take the detour to Merweville you will be rewarded.
